The
History Of Michiana
Professional Photographers, INC.
At a
Burrell Color seminar, while introducing the Past President of the
Northern
Illinois Professional Photographers Association, Owen "Shorty"
Roberts commented on how he "..felt that the
Photographers of Northern Indiana should
have an association also..." After- wards, a group of
10-12 photographers
approached Shorty for information on how to form
such
a group.
In South
Bend, in 1981, thirty-two photographers and their spouses met.
They chose the
name of the group, began
the process of becoming a Professional Photographers of America Affiliate,
and elected the
charter Board of Directors. That founding board included
President
Dee Kime, Vice President Del
Cook, Secretary Edda Taylor, and Treasurer Barry
Happel.
Other board
members were Richard Lewis, Terry Rickert, and Garfield Walker.
MPP's
first seminar took place at the PPA headquarters while still in Winona
Lake,
IN. 120 attended,
making it a huge success.
MPP
enjoyed such popularity in its infancy due to many dedicated
photographers. Their
efforts saw to it that
MPP would be a source of valuable knowledge to its members. This enabled the
membership to stay on
the cutting edge of photographic industry trends, and learn how to
be better photographers
and business people. In a word, Mpp is
"Dedicated
to the betterment of Professional Photography"
